As we all prepare to feast with family and friends, I am always drawn to thoughts of hunger in America. Over the years I have helped collect food for many projects at churches and other organizations to provide Thanksgiving meals to families that wouldn’t have any feast without help. It wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without some reflection. While reading through last year’s blog posts, the Eyes Wide Open team compiled a short list of what we think the top stories in 2012 were. Without further ado and in no particular order:

Restoring Faith in Humanity

Following the devastating events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary, many are looking for a means to support the affected families or help in some way. Considering this, Ann Curry tweeted a suggestion for everyone to perform 20 random acts of kindness in honor of each child lost in the shootings. Tens of thousands responded on Twitter and Facebook, upping the charge to 26 acts to also commemorate the heroic teachers.
